Entry Requirements including Language, Literacy and Numeracy

Any student wanting to enrol at Pollard English must meet the entry requirements of Pollard English. 

Students will be informed of their entry requirements by way of:

  • website and downloading course information (when site is active)
  • requesting a hard copy of the course information
  • receiving information from an education agent (if and when agents are engaged)

Assessing Entry Requirements

Prior to the acceptance of enrolment, Pollard English will assess each student’s ability to meet the entry requirements.

Students must:

  1. be of a minimum of 18 years of age, and
  2. complete a screening interview with the Academic Manager of his representative to assess suitability and capability in completing this qualification.
  3. If it is determined that the student need to complete a Language, Literacy and Numeracy (LLN) test, the student will be required to complete a LLN test to determine whether the student might be suitable for this qualification or any supporting services might be required during the student’s enrolment at Pollard English.
    International Student Engagement Policy

    Applicants must

    Pollard English ensures it provides all relevant information to students prior to enrolment in line with the requirements in National Code to ensure students can make an informed decision about studying at Pollard English. This will be done through the marketing materials and includes the following information:

    • all requirements for acceptance into a course, including:
    1. the minimum level of English language proficiency
      IELTS 4.5, TOEFL (iBT) 32-59, TOEIC 600
      OR Online Test (Minimum Versant score: between 34-45),
    2. educational qualifications or work experience required and
    3. whether course credit may be applicable
    • course content and duration, qualification types, modes of study and assessment methods.
    • campus location(s) and a general description of facilities, equipment, and learning and library resources available to students.
    • details of any arrangements (if any) with another registered provider, person or business to provide the course or part of the course.
    • course-related fees including advice on the potential for fees to change during the student’s course and applicable refund policies.
    • information about the grounds on which the student’s enrolment may be deferred, suspended or cancelled.
    • a description of the ESOS framework made available electronically by the Department of Education
    • relevant information on living in Australia, including:
    1. indicative costs of living
    2. accommodation options, and
    3. where relevant, schooling obligations and options for school-aged dependants of intending students, including that school fees may be incurred.

    Pollard English ensures that students' qualifications, experience and English language proficiency are appropriate for the course for which enrolment is sought.

    Procedure

    Pollard English complies with the National Code of the ESOS Act 2000 by ensuring that

    • Pollard English Marketing information is provided with all relevant information (in line with the requirements in National Code) to students prior to enrolment to ensure students can make an informed decision about studying with Pollard English.
    • Formal engagement of any Education Agent will include the provisions that they provide prospective students with marketing materials with sufficient information (in line with the requirements in National Code) so they can make an informed decision about studying with Pollard English.
    Formalisation of Enrolment for International Students

    Pollard English will enter into a written agreement with each student prior to accepting any payments from the student. Each agreement will have as a minimum the following points:

    • identify the course or courses in which the student is to be enrolled and any conditions on his or her enrolment,
    • provide an itemised list of course fees payable by the student,
    • provide information in relation to refunds of course fees,
    • set out the circumstances in which personal information about the student may be shared between the registered provider and the Australian Government and designated authorities and, if relevant, the Tuition Protection Service (TPS). This information includes personal and contact details, course enrolment details and changes, and the circumstance of any suspected breach by the student of a student visa condition, and
    • advise the student of his or her obligation to notify the registered provider of a change of address while enrolled in the course,

    In relation to refunds, the following information will be contained:

    • amounts that may or may not be repaid to the student (including any course fees collected by education agents on behalf of the registered provider),
    • processes for claiming a refund,
    • a plain English explanation of what happens in the event of a course not being delivered, and
    • a statement that “This agreement, and the availability of complaints and appeals processes, does not remove the right of the student to take action under Australia’s consumer protection laws”.

    Pollard English, as part of the formalisation process will advise each potential student of the circumstances in which personal information about the student may be shared with others.

    Pollard English will not accept course fees from any student until the student has accepted and signed the agreement (Letter of Offer).

    Pollard English may accept course fees received at the same time as the verification of acceptance (for example, if a student sends a signed acceptance with an accompanying payment or brings the payment along with the accepted agreement into Pollard English’s office).

    If Pollard English receives course fees sent by mail (for example, by cheque or money order) before receiving the accepted written agreement, Pollard English will not use the money. Pollard English will immediately contact the student or agent to inform them that the payment cannot be processed (and the enrolment cannot progress) until the provider receives the accepted written agreement from the student.
